The Great Tibetan Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K
In the Great Tibetan Marathon® the physical trials are matched by the peaceful spirituality
in the Buddhist mountainous region of Ladakh.
Ladakh is an area in the northernmost corner of India on the edge of the Himalayas.
The capital, Leh, is situated 3,500 metres above sea level, signs of Buddhism are
met around every corner, and the majestic, snow-covered mountains beat any scenery.
The air is thin, the paths are rugged and the inclines are frequent and steep.
But The Great Tibetan Marathon® is also Buddhist prayer flags, ancient monasteries
and breathtaking nature. The race is permeated with the area’s all-pervasive Buddhism,
with its start line in the Hemis Monastery, mani walls scattered over the mountainous
landscape and Buddhist monks serving the runners water on the demanding run. In
The Great Tibetan Marathon® you are far, far away from home.
This marathon is a great and unusual way of exploring one of the most fascinating
corners of the world. At the same time you get to challenge your body in a truly
extreme way. After this, any other race will be an enjoyable walk in the park. If
you won’t take our word for it, then take Forbes Magazine’s, who selected The Great
Tibetan Marathon® as the World’s Toughest Marathon. View the list of the World’s
Most Extreme Marathons according to Forbes
